Intercultural Education and Competences at School

The present time of globalization, interdependence and multicultural societies has brought about both opportunities crisis that concern all fields involved with social welfare, especially education (Portera, 2020, 2006). Within the school environment, there is a growing need for intercultural competences at cognitive, emotional relational levels, which will endow teachers students abilities to operate in linguistically culturally complex contexts (UNESCO, 2015; Portera, 2013; Deardorff, 2009). However, concepts ‘Intercultural Education’ Competences’ are often misunderstood require more precise definition. authors review scientific literature on aforementioned then report results study carried out by Centre Intercultural Study University Verona (Italy) examines how who work different types schools define apply concept ‘intercultural competences’ their praxis. uses qualitative research methodology includes process ‘triangulation’. Specifically, series semi-structured interviews, focus groups participant observations were conducted order explore teachers’ competences, through analysis critical incidents. After discussing results, outline impplications teacher praxis perspective.
